Conversation and critique in higher education for art is paramount, serving as a crucible for creative growth. Through thoughtful analysis and feedback, students refine their artistic voice, cultivate a discerning eye, and develop the resilience needed to navigate the evolving landscape of artistic expression. Yet in many cases, certain comments disrupt the cycle of constructive feedback and analysis, resulting in an abrupt end to educational conversation and silencing the classroom.
This visualization is accompanied by a booklet documenting such comments observed during my undergraduate career as an illustration student at the Rhode Island School of Design, spanning the years of 2019 through 2023.
